Director Bret Kolb has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. He was appointed to lead the Alaska Division of Insurance in May, 2012.
Mr. Kolb was born in Missouri and grew up primarily in the south. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Cedarville University and an MBA from Strayer University. Both degrees have served him well over the course of his career in support of his various and growing management responsibilities.
Mr. Kolb began his career in the insurance industry in 1993 as a health claims examiner and worked his way up to a vice president, managing multiple insurance divisions. He has worked with group health, individual major medical, ERISA, life, disability, and reinsurance products. His career has taken him from Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina and New York, but after moving north in 2010, Mr. Kolb and his family are pleased to call Alaska home.
Mr. Kolb and his wife, Meschelle, were married in 1991, and they have three children: Derek, Brittany and Hunter. In addition to spending time with his family and their small menagerie of pets in the Mat-Su Valley, he volunteers with Victory Ministries of Alaska.
