The Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Board (AMFTRB) has recently partnered with the Professional Testing Corporation, which will result in several changes in the examination process effective January 2015. While candidates must still submit applications to the State of Alaska Board of Marital and Family Therapy for approval to sit for the exam, the new partnership will provide testing opportunities for one full week every month. Access to the new application will be available on October 15, 2014. The application deadline will be the 1st of the month prior to the chosen testing period. In addition, candidates will only need to make one payment for the examination and site fee, and will receive exam score reports directly from AMFTRB. For more information, please view the AMFTRB/PTCNY brochure.
The Board of Marital and Family Therapy is staffed by the Division of Corporation and Professional Licensing. The board consists of three marital and family therapists and two public members. Board members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Legislature.
The board adopts regulations to carry out laws governing the practice of marital and family therapy in Alaska. It makes final licensing decisions and takes disciplinary actions against people who violate licensing laws. The board meets at least once a year and offers a public comment period at each meeting. Meeting agendas are available from the licensing examiner.
Notice Regarding e-therapy
Anyone considering utilizing e-therapy, or on-line therapy needs to know that if you are living in Alaska and receiving e-therapy, or on-line therapy, from a therapist outside of Alaska, there is no process available for the regulation of that therapist. Please inquire with the therapist as to their credentials and license.
