Community Sanitation Overview:
Kachemak Selo is located approximately 20 miles east of Homer on Kachemak Bay. The Village of Kachemak Selo Water Company Incorporated, a non-profit corporation organized under Chapter 10.20 of state statute, operates and manages the community’s sanitation services. Those services include a Class A water system which draws water from two nearby springs, East Spring and West Spring, and delivers it to approximately 30 residences. Instead of adding treatment chemicals, the utility relies on ultraviolet (UV) light to disinfect water from East Spring. Water from West Spring is not considered by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) to be a public water source and its water is not disinfected. The community has expressed opposition to chlorination, despite the evidence of total coliform bacteria in the water supply. Studies are underway to determine whether the water from the springs is pure groundwater, or if it is groundwater under the direct influence of surface water (GWUDISW). GWUDISW will require chlorination. 
RUBA Status & Activities This Qtr:
RUBA staff wrote to Kachemak Selo Water Company Incorporated this quarter inviting utility staff to utility management trainings and offering general assistance; however, to response was received. RUBA staff did speak with the community’s assigned Village Safe Water (VSW) project engineer about water quality issues in the community and the possibility of scheduling an on-site utility management assessment next quarter.  
RUBA Activities for the Coming Qtr:
RUBA staff will again contact the community, offering to conduct a utility management assessment as a step toward sanitation project grant funding eligibility.
